Tooth-coloured Fillings
These are non-metal based fillings that can be used instead of a silver filling. These can rebuild a tooth to give a natural appearance.
Veneers
Veneers or crowns can be used to change the shape and colour where teeth show. A crown covers all over the tooth, a veneer usually only covers the front of the tooth so less tooth preparation is needed than a crown.
Crowns
Crowns can be used to rebuild a tooth that is very broken down, or weak, or has been root filled. It helps protect teeth from breaking, making it more resistant to chewing forces (or grinding teeth).
It is usual to place conventional filling on a broken tooth before preparing the crown to get a base on which to support it.
Crowns can be made from a variety of materials. Gold, which can be very thin, or tooth-coloured porcelain bonded to a strong metal base, or, the most cosmetic option,an all porcelain crown which combines strength with the best looks.
